Visiting OHIO Frequently Asked Questions

Will my tour be canceled due to inclement weather?

In most cases no, but we have your safety in mind! Tours depart rain or shine; however, if lightning is seen during your tour you will be asked to move indoors. If a tour needs to be canceled due to weather, supplemental information will be provided. Campus tours will not be offered on days that the university is closed due to inclement weather.

Where can I park on campus?

An email confirming your registration will be sent to the email address used to schedule the visit. The confirmation email will include a parking pass and parking instructions. Please allow 15-20 minutes in your schedule to park and walk to the designated check-in location.

Our Plan Your Visit page has more details and maps.

How do I meet with an academic department?

Ohio University's academic departments provide multiple options to connect with faculty and staff, including in-person visits, online appointments, webinars, and chats. Review our Academic Department Visits for the types of visits and days they are offered.

What can I do if a visit date I want is unavailable/filled?

Please check the Special Campus Visit Programs to see if we have other opportunities to visit campus that day. (There might also be Virtual Visit Opportunities offered on that day.) If space becomes available we will reopen registration for that day so please check back! We also have a self-guided tour that you are welcome to use at your family's convenience.

How do I cancel or change my visit?

Please check your original confirmation email for a link to cancel or update your registration. If you are having difficulty, please call Undergraduate Admissions at 740.593.4100 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Can I eat at an on-campus venue during my visit?

Yes, we would invite you to stop by any of our 13 food and drink venues on campus. Options include dining halls, markets, cafes, food courts, restaurants and a food truck. Please check to see what options are available on the date of your visit as hours and days of operation vary. Campus dining locations do not accept cash. Culinary Services provides more information on campus dining options.

How many guests can I bring to my visit?

For most campus visit options, students may bring as many guests as they would like. Some events may have capacity limitations, and that information will be shared on the event's registration form. When registering for a campus visit, please provide an accurate count of your guests on the registration form. (If your number of guests changes, you can update your event registration via your confirmation email.)

What should I wear/bring to my campus visit?

Dress comfortably, and be sure to wear shoes comfortable for walking. Check the weather before your visit so that you can dress appropriately, and bring an umbrella if necessary. We also encourage you to bring along a water bottle. (Water fountains have been disabled, but bottle filling stations are available throughout campus.)

Can I visit campus without a parent or guardian?

Visitors under the age of 18 are strongly encouraged to bring a responsible adult to their campus visit. Some special visit programs may include overnight accommodations provided by the University. In these instances, students under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Can I meet individually with a representative from admissions or financial aid?

Representatives from Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships and other student services offices are available M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Eastern. If you schedule a campus visit during these hours, you can meet with them before or after your visit. When you arrive on campus, admissions staff will be happy to direct you to the correct office.

What will my campus tour be like?

Depending on the event, your campus tour will last either 60 or 90 minutes. All of our campus tours are walking tours, so you should be prepared to walk for the duration of your tour. (Wheelchairs are available. You can request a wheelchair on your event registration form.) The majority of your tour will be outside, though you will have opportunities to see inside several buildings.

Can I tour campus in a shuttle instead of a walking tour?

We are unable to provide shuttle or golf cart tours at this time. Wheelchairs are available and can be requested on your event registration form.

How do I request accommodations for myself or one of my guests?

Undergraduate Admissions is happy to coordinate accommodations for people with disabilities or medical conditions to ensure access to our events. You can request accommodations on the event registration form. Undergraduate Admissions will make every effort to meet the need for accommodations; however, requests made with less than 4 weeks' notice may not be possible in some cases.
