OHIO experts discuss severe weather and climate

The peak of summer usually means high temps and severe storms, but over the last few years has it gotten worse? Has climate change impacted weather? Ohio University meteorology professors in the College of Arts and Sciences discussed severe weather development and how climate impacts it in the latest Ask the Experts livestream.

The discussion featured Ryan Fogt, professor of meteorology and Director of the Scalia Lab of Atmospheric Analysis and Jana Houser, professor of meteorology.

Samantha Pelham, OHIO media relations specialist, moderated the discussion, which included questions from the general public posted to OHIO’s social media channels.

They discussed the development of tornadoes, how certain terrains impact severe weather, Antarctica’s impact on the rest of the world, and the connection between climate change and extreme weather.

The discussion can be viewed on the Ohio University YouTube channel, on the Ohio University Facebook page, and below.

Panel discussions on topical issues, which include opportunities for University and community engagement, are hosted regularly on the University’s Facebook and YouTube page.
