Fall Grad Spotlight: Elizabeth Elrod

Elizabeth Elrod came to Ohio University from Portsmouth, Ohio and graduates this semester with a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Ohio University’s College of Fine Arts. 

What are your next steps or plans for the future?
I will be attending grad school at Appalachian State University for a dual degree in Music Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling

What memory stands out from your time at OHIO?
Senior year performing with The Picardy Thirds at A Cappella Invitationals

Why did you choose OHIO? 
I chose OHIO because of the financial aid awarded to me but I stayed for the amazing music therapy program, the beautiful campus, and the strong roots I laid down in Athens.

Who were your favorite professors and how did they make an impact on your life?
Professors Jessica Fletcher and Maureen Wagner both helped me feel welcomed, cherished, and celebrated as a transgender student. Their support was unwavering and I’m happy to have had both of them in my life. 

What was the hardest hill you had to climb (not counting Jeff Hill) at OHIO? And how did you overcome challenges or obstacles in your path?
My hardest hill was coming back to OHIO after taking a three-year hiatus. It took a lot to come back after family tragedy and personal obstacles, but I did it, and I’m finally graduating with my bachelor’s after 8 years. Learning how to listen to myself and my intuition and believing in myself is what got me to this point. 

What are your favorite OHIO memories?
Mainly spending time with the friends I made in Bella Voce, University Singers, and The Picardy Thirds.

What’s the one thing you would tell a new OHIO student not to miss?
Go visit the Ridges in the fall when the leaves are at peak color. It’s absolutely beautiful.
