President M. Duane Nellis announces process for 2018 Distinguished Professor Award nominations
Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis shared the following message with the campus community on Monday, Oct. 2, regarding the nominations process for OHIO's 2018 Distinguished Professor Award.
Dear Faculty, Students and Staff,
The Office of the President and the Ohio University Distinguished Professors are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Distinguished Professor.
Nominations may be made by any current Ohio University faculty member and are welcomed from all departments, schools, and academic disciplines at Ohio University. A letter of nomination outlining the case for the candidate should be submitted, accompanied by up to 10 supporting letters primarily from leading external experts in the candidate’s field. Additional relevant supporting material also may be included.
Nominations should be submitted directly to Dr. Chris France, chair of the nominations committee, at distinguishedprofessors@ohio.edu. The other members of the nominating committee are Distinguished Professors Gerardine Botte, Thomas Carpenter, Sasha Govorov, and Judith Yaross Lee. All supporting materials can be delivered to the Office of the President in Cutler Hall 108.
The Distinguished Professor Award recognizes outstanding scholarly and creative accomplishments and is the highest permanent recognition attainable by faculty at Ohio University. Recipients must have attained tenure and completed a minimum of five years of service at Ohio University. The award, first given in 1959, is supported by an endowment provided by Edwin and Ruth Kennedy to the Baker Fund.
Among the privileges granted to Distinguished Professors is the honor of annually naming an undergraduate student to receive a year's full-tuition scholarship, lifetime designation title of Distinguished Professor, a one semester paid research leave, stipend, and travel support.
