The Ohio University School of Art + Design presents a lecture by visiting curator Drew Sawyer at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Mitchell Auditorium, Seigfred Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Sawyer is head of exhibitions and William J. and Sarah Ross Soter associate curator of photography at the Columbus Museum of Art, as well as the arts editor at Document Journal, an independent culture, arts, and fashion magazine founded in New York in 2012.
He is this year’s juror for the annual student “Undergraduate Juried Exhibition” scheduled for Nov. 21–Dec. 9, in the Ohio University Art Gallery, Seigfred Hall. Each year nearly 200 submissions by undergraduate students enrolled in courses at the University are judged for excellence and merit, and approximately 65 pieces are selected for the exhibition. There are a number of awards given; three designated by the juror, one by the Director of the School of Art + Design, two given by the Dean of the College and each year OHIO’s President and his wife give out four awards.
Sawyer’s Nov. 15 curators talk, titled “Reinventing Documentary,” will be focused on his current project exploring the multiple modes and traditions of documentary photography in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The School of Art + Design will host the opening reception for the exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28. The exhibition can be viewed in the Ohio University Art Gallery in Seigfred Hall 536, with open gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
This College of Fine Arts event is made possible through support from Arts for Ohio.
