OHIO journalism student elected to National PRSSA Executive Board
The Scripps Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) vice president of member relations, Alyssa Murtagh, was elected to serve on the 2018-19 PRSSA National Committee as the new vice president of career services.
On March 10, Murtagh, a third-year student in Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, traveled to Miami to present a five-minute speech to more than 150 PRSSA chapter delegates from around the country at the annual PRSSA National Assembly. Her speech explained her intentions of being the next vice president of career services on the PRSSA National Executive Board. After giving two speeches in front of the delegates, voting took place and Murtagh was elected as the 2018-19 vice president of career services.
“I have had the amazing opportunity to serve our own chapter on campus this past year, and I am thrilled to take my knowledge from that position to the national level. I am excited to help PRSSSA members across the world with furthering their careers in the field,” said Murtagh.
Murtagh’s speech explained her platform and goals, including diversifying the internship database by adding more internships from different industries and locations, improving the Champions of PRSSA program which would improve the relationships between professionals and PRSSA members in chapters around the country and expanding her availability to consult with members about resumes and cover letters.
PRSSA National Assembly brings together delegates from most PRSSA chapters around the country to discuss and vote on bylaws, attend leadership training sessions and networking events. The most important part of the assembly, however, is voting on the new executive board for the following year.
