OHIO’s Master of Athletic Administration announces formation of advisory board, appointment of members
Ohio University’s Master of Athletic Administration (MAA) Program has announced the formation of its first advisory board. The board will provide guidance and support for the program’s efforts as the premier degree program for future interscholastic athletic administrators. The board will also help identify future growth opportunities within the program and potential resources.
“Having the support of our new advisory board members will strengthen our already outstanding graduate program,” said Dr. Scott Smith, associate professor and director of the MAA program. “Ohio University is known for its exceptional network of alumni and friends. We’re proud to engage members from this community in a way that impacts our students’ experience.”
The new board will be comprised of nine charter members. Seven of the nine board members are MAA alumni, while two are program faculty. All nine members hold certifications from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). Those being appointed to the board include:
Rebecca Moran is a 2009 graduate of the MAA program and is currently the director of athletics at Argo Community High School in Summit, Illinois. In addition, Rebecca is the professional development coordinator for Illinois Athletic Directors Association and is a national faculty member for the Leadership Training Program within the NIAAA. She has achieved and maintained her Certified Master Athletic Administrator certification with the NIAAA.
Brett Purcell is an athletic director (7-12) at Waynesfield-Goshen Local Schools in Waynesfield, Ohio. Brett graduated from the MAA program in 2016 and also received a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Ohio University in 2009. Brett is a Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA certified) with the NIAAA.
Eric Silverman is an MAA graduate from 2010, earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Ohio University in 2006, and is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA certified) with the NIAAA. He is currently the athletic director at Monroe Jr./Sr. High School in Monroe, Ohio and is highly involved in both the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA) and the Southwest District Athletic Directors Association.
Jason Cuthbert represents a contingent of International Athletic Directors who have graduated from the MAA Program. Jason, a Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA certified), is a 2016 MAA graduate who currently works as an athletic director at the American School of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland. Jason is also highly involved with the NIAAA Leadership Training Program, designing and teaching Leadership Training courses for international Athletic Directors.
Marvin Burke is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA certified) and is the athletic director at Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield, North Carolina. He graduated from the MAA program in 2012.
Mark White is an athletic administrator at Presque Isle High School and Presque Isle Middle School in Presque Isle, Maine. He completed the MAA program in 2012 and is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA certified) with NIAAA.
Darlene Bible is currently athletic director and director of Summer Sports Programs at Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City, California. She graduated from the MAA program in 2015 and is also a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA certified) with NIAAA.
John Evers is currently an adjunct faculty member in the MAA program and lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. John is a retired athletic director from Castle High School in Indiana, in addition to being the development editor of the NIAAA’s Interscholastic Athletic Administration journal. John was inducted into the NIAAA Hall of Fame in December 2017 and maintains Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) certification with the NIAAA.
Aaron Wright was the MAA program director from 2010-2015, and currently serves as a full-time faculty member in the program while residing in Vermont. Aaron was previously the athletic director at Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland, is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA certified) with NIAAA, and is a 2005 graduate of Ohio University’s Master of Sports Administration (MSA) Program.
