Professional Development Pathways will leverage technology for training
The Badging and Certification Project will provide on-the-job professional development opportunities for Ohio University employees through new learning opportunities recorded in Blackboard. The first badges and certificate are expected to be available summer 2018 with the full program launching during the 2018-2019 academic year.
Beginning in June the OHIO Professional Development Pathways program will offer new learning experiences through Blackboard, the University’s Learning Management System (LMS). In Blackboard, learners will be able to complete any required course pre-work, find all of your training materials, and view all badges and certificates you earn through course completion. Any course you are enrolled in through OHIO Professional Development Pathways will be tracked and maintained in Blackboard. You will have the opportunity to earn your first badge by completing the Welcome to Blackboard eLearning course when the program launches in June. This course will teach you how to navigate Blackboard and self-study eLearning courses.
OHIO Professional Development Pathways will be offering courses in both traditional instructor-led style and online eLearning format. Self-study eLearning courses are a convenient way to pursue professional development. As a learner, you can take your time and study at your own pace. Other advantages of eLearning are:
- Courses can be reviewed as many times as needed
- Courses can be taken at your convenience
- Courses can be taken from any location with internet access
- Courses are interactive, employing various forms of media
The Professional Development Pathways program will offer more certificates and courses as it continues to grow. After the initial two certificates have been rolled out, new learning experiences will be developed in support of additional certificates, which will be announced as they are finalized.
