Career and Leadership Development Center Industry Panel will allow students, alumni to explore careers in government and public affairs on Sept. 20
Ohio University students and alumni interested in working within government and public affairs are invited to attend the Career and Leadership Development Center Industry Panel from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Baker University Center 503.
The one-hour panel discussion will be followed by a 30-minute networking session. Light refreshments will be available.
The panel will allow students to learn more about the government and public affairs industry, the career paths of experienced professionals in that industry and gain insight about how they can apply their majors to a future career.
The panelists are:
- Colton Henson, director of political operation at Swing State Strategies, is an OHIO alumnus who earned a degree in political science. He has worked for nearly a decade on political and issue campaigns in both Ohio and West Virginia. After graduating from OHIO, Henson helped lead the successful efforts to retake Republican legislative majorities in West Virginia for the first time in nearly a century. Henson now focuses mainly on public affairs projects and has worked in more than 25 states.
- Amy Flowers, bailiff at Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, is an OHIO alumna who earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration. While at OHIO, she was president of the College Democrats, volunteered for Students Defending Students and was an active member of the pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. In 2005, she was elected to Athens City Council and was re-elected in 2007. She attended Capital University in Columbus and received her Juris Doctorate in 2015. Flowers has been a member of the Columbus Bar Association since 2015 and is an active member in the Central Ohio legal community.
- Jamie Dahl is the forest outreach coordinator at Central State University Extension and McIntire-Stennis Program. She has previous forestry and natural resources work experience with the Pennsylvania State University, Rocky Mountain National Park/Rocky Mountain Nature Association and the Colorado State Forest Service. Her prior work areas include forest management, public outreach, volunteer management, training, research, career coaching, and education. She is also an active member of the Society of American Foresters and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University with a focus on social science within natural resources.
The panel discussion is free and open to OHIO students and alumni. Registration through Handshake is required to attend this panel. Those in attendance are encouraged to dress professionally, but there is no specific dress requirement to attend the event.
