OHIO Honors Course Enhancement Workshops now open for faculty registration
In support of the OHIO Honors Program, six Course Enhancement Workshops will be offered to faculty between September and January. These workshops are designed to help faculty build OHIO Honors components into courses they are already teaching.
Faculty members who participate in a workshop and submit an honors course adaptation proposal are eligible to receive $400 in compensation. The first workshop session is scheduled to take place 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.
During the sessions, OHIO Honors Program Director Margaux Cowden and Associate Director Christy Zempter will introduce attendees to the program. Instructional designers in the Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) will then guide faculty through the process of developing a proposal for an enhanced course to be considered for inclusion in the OHIO Honors curriculum.
“Providing OHIO’s faculty with the tools to help them enhance their classroom experience is essential to everything we do,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Chaden Djalali. “The focus of these workshops is about more than simply helping OHIO’s faculty members learn how to adapt their existing courses to include honors components; it’s about learning from faculty how to best define such adaptations, too.”
These workshops will help support the program’s commitment to high-impact curricular and co-curricular learning experiences, as well as foster interdisciplinarity and innovation.
“We hope the OHIO Honors Program will serve as a sandbox for inventive pedagogy. The workshops provide an opportunity for faculty to share innovative assignments and brainstorm new teaching approaches with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues,” said Cowden.
The OHIO Honors Program offers an alternative to the Honors Tutorial College’s tutorial model for highly engaged students across disciplines who want to focus on experiential learning and application. The program is designed to complement undergraduate study in any non-tutorial degree program.
“The OHIO Honors Program is joining a strong University-wide academic culture that celebrates interdisciplinary and experiential learning in its wide range of forms,” said Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis. “I look forward better positioning all of our faculty to experience the deep rewards that one’s involvement in an honors program can provide.”
