Deborah Shaffer, vice president for Finance and Administration, shared the following message with the faculty and staff regarding the need for Halloween volunteers.
Dear Colleagues,
This year’s City of Athens Halloween street party is Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.
In an effort to keep Ohio University and surrounding areas safe, the University utilizes a program known as “Green Jackets." This program was created to provide an additional presence on and around campus during this celebration.
Please consider volunteering to be a Green Jacket. Each pair or group of volunteers walks designated areas equipped with a flashlight, a two-way radio and a clearly marked Ohio University staff jacket.
A Green Jacket’s role is to:
- Provide a positive community presence
- Verify the security of entryways to on-campus buildings
- Serve as a conduit to public safety officials when necessary
The Green Jacket shift is 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.; food and beverages will be provided during breaks, and volunteers will receive $50 in Bobcat Cash.
Typically, 80-100 Green Jacket volunteers cover the campus and near campus areas on Saturday evening. If interested, please contact Jill Harris at harrisj4@ohio.edu no later than Friday, Oct. 5.
Thank you for considering this request; the work of Green Jacket volunteers is important to maintaining the safety and security of our campus community.
Sincerely,
Deborah Shaffer
Vice President for Finance and Administration
