CHIP gears up for another year of healthy food and lifestyle changes
Ohio University employees and their spouses who are interested in improving their health and lifestyle by adopting a healthy diet and increasing their exercise level should consider enrolling in the free Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP).
CHIP, which is conducted locally by Live Healthy Appalachia, aims to show people tips to lead them to a healthier and happier lifestyle through simple changes, many of which you can see within a matter of weeks. More than 700 people in Athens County have already benefited from CHIP, a scientifically proven lifestyle intervention program.
The goal of CHIP is to lower blood cholesterol, hypertension, blood sugar level, as well as reduce excess weight. Whether you want to make gradual changes or are ready to make major leaps toward a healthier lifestyle, CHIP will help you with recipes, research and the support to reach personal goals.
CHIP is different than other weight loss or lifestyle programs. It will help you to make long-lasting changes by addressing the causes of chronic disease and teaching you to use your own lifestyle as the best medicine.
Employees and their spouses are encouraged to attend one of these upcoming CHIP info sessions to learn more:
- Wednesday, Jan. 30 - Baker University Center 230, noon-1 p.m.
- Tuesday, Feb. 5 - Baker University Center 231, noon-1 p.m.
If these information sessions spark your interest, then you can pre-register for the classes being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 12 through April 25.
Ohio University Human Resources will cover 100 percent of program fees for benefits-participating employees and spouses-partners who elect to participate in a clinical research study.
This informational event consists of 18 sessions that include videos, dynamic and inclusive discussions and peer support. There will be two health screenings that test cholesterol, HDL, LDL, (good vs. bad cholesterol) triglycerides, glucose, and general lifestyle evaluations.
Attendees will enjoy food prepared by students in The Patton College of Education’s Restaurant, Hotel and Tourism program. They also will receive a CHIP kit, which includes a cookbook, workbook and textbook.
