Life on Death Row conversation on Feb. 13 is next ’90 Minutes Series’ conversation
The next “90 Minutes Series” conversation will highlight the story of former death row inmate Joe D’Ambrosio.
He was living a straight life when he got accused of a 1988 murder that he didn’t commit. He spent more than 20 years in prison before he was exonerated. He will share the story of his wrongful imprisonment and how he’s rebuilding his life at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Schoonover Center 145. Honors Tutorial College student Grant Gravanga will conduct the interview before soliciting questions from the audience.
Unfortunately, D’Ambrosio is one of a long list of men who have spent long stretches in American prisons for crimes they did not do. Thanks to Ohioans to Stop Executions, he has been able to travel the state and speak about the insanity of people killing people — and the rush to do so in a country that should, if it must, use capital punishment with extreme caution.
The aim of the “90 Minutes” is to create discussions about politics, racism, sexism, and other global topics. The events will expose students on campus to men and women who have faced adversity or who have seen discrimination happen to others but who have stepped forward to address those issues.
The “90 Minutes Series,” now in its third year, is always free, informative and open to the public. This year’s sponsors are: Associated Press Sports Editors, Housing and Residence Life, Office of Student Affairs, E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Scripps College Diversity Committee, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and Honors Tutorial College.
