OHIO’s Theater Division presents ‘Holly Down in Heaven,’ by Kara Lee Corthron
“Holly Down in Heaven,” by Kara Lee Corthron, is directed by Brian Evans in the Elizabeth Evans Baker Theater, Kantner Hall opening Feb. 21.
Ohio University’s Theater Division in the School of Dance, Film and Theater is proud to present the fourth production of the 2018–19 season, “Holly Down in Heaven,” by Kara Lee Corthron, directed by Brian Evans. The production will play in the Elizabeth Evans Baker Theater in Kantner Hall, Feb. 21 to 23 and Feb. 26 to March 2, at 8 p.m.
The play tells the story of Holly, a 15-year-old, brainy, outspoken, spoiled, tyrannical brat who collects dolls and is a born-again Christian. She’s also pregnant. During her nine-month odyssey, she must find a way to move forward with the new life she’s landed in or remain forever hidden in her own special heaven…of talking dolls. “Holly Down in Heaven” is a dark comedy about navigating the treacherous terrain from child to adult.
Evans, an associate professor in the Division of Theater who teaches voice, speech, and stage combat has previously directed “Romeo and Juliet” at Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, Massachusetts, and “Henry IV, Part One” at the Oxford Shakespeare Festival. His acting credits include work with the Human Race Theatre, the Colorado, Illinois and Oxford Shakespeare Festivals, South Coast Repertory, Porthouse Theatre and CATCO.
The student cast includes Lauryn Glenn, Janai Lashon, DeVante Malone, Caleb Crawford, Zenzi Mda, Kezia Waters, Aidan Tracy, Jazsmin Johnson and Devin Porter.
There will be talkbacks following the performances on Saturday, Feb. 23, and Wednesday Feb. 27.
