Chief pilot for OHIO's Air Transportation Services selected for National Business Aviation Association's 40 Under 40

Nick Lather, chief pilot for Ohio University’s Air Transportation Services (ATS), has been named to the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) 2019 Business Aviation Top 40 Under 40, and will be honored at a national convention in Las Vegas in October.

The recognition highlights young leaders who are shaping the future of the aviation industry. According to the NBAA, Lather uses his post as an instructor in OHIO’s pilot internship program to educate students about the range of career opportunities available. Lather said he’s helped train more than 260 co-pilots.

“I love getting them out of that training bubble and seeing different types of aviation operations,” Lather told the NBAA.

Lather was a student from 1997-2001; a co-pilot from 1999-2001; a student captain from 2000-2001; and was hired as a full-time captain in 2001. He’s been the chief pilot since 2004, and over the span of his career, has flown more than 780,000 miles — equivalent to flying around the world 33 times.

“We are extremely proud of Nick for being honored with this recognition, and we are very proud of the impact he’s had on Ohio University students and alumni,” said Gwyn Scott, associate vice president for auxiliaries at OHIO. “The University is fortunate to have someone on staff whose ideas are helping to shape the future of the aviation industry.”

OHIO’s Air Transportation Services invites the OHIO community to stop by the 2019 Faculty & Staff Resource Fair between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 4 in Baker University Center to congratulate Lather in person.

“I wouldn't have received this award without Ohio University,” Lather said. “I can’t wait to meet and greet in Vegas sporting my Bobcat Tie.”
