2019 Purple Gala to help raise funds for substance abuse recovery home

Coming off a 2018 event that raised $10,540 for Serenity Grove, the annual Purple Gala — presented by the senior nursing class of Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions — is hoping to bring in even more this year.

The 2019 Purple Gala is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Ohio University’s Baker Center Ballroom.

The Purple Gala is an evening devoted to raising awareness of the substance misuse epidemic. The proceeds will go to Serenity Grove, a women’s recovery home in Athens. Throughout the year, the senior nursing class raises funds and, in addition to the funds raised during the Purple Gala event, will present a check to Serenity Grove.

Tickets are $30 each, $50 for two or $200 for a table of eight and can be purchased through Friday, Nov. 29 or, if available, at the door on Dec. 3. Last year, more than 300 people attended The Purple Gala.

The semi-formal event will include dinner, entertainment, a raffle, resource fair and speakers, including Dr. Carol Cunningham, state medical director for the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS.
