OHIO makes 2020 'Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs' list

Diverse: Issues in Higher Education listed Ohio University among its 2020 “The Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.”

OHIO is one of only 27 higher education institutions to receive the honor from the publication, which describes itself as “America’s premier source of timely news, provocative commentary, insightful interviews and in-depth special reports on diversity in higher education.”

With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment, the publication uses a web-based survey to examine several categories, including family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities.

"To be included on a short list of schools nationally recognized for diversity efforts in student affairs is a great honor," said President M. Duane Nellis. "Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Jason Pina, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Gigi Secuban, and their staff members have done a great job of establishing a positive work environment that encourages the career growth of Ohio University employees. They also offer steadfast support to our talented students, which is why we are all here."

This year is the seventh year the list has been published by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. OHIO received the honor for the first time in 2015, the second year of the award. This year, other institutions in the state to receive the honor are: Bowling Green State, Case Western Reserve, Miami and Ohio State.

The 27 institutions will be recognized at The American College Personnel Association ACPA annual convention on Tuesday, March 3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The awards ceremony coverage will be published in the March 5, 2020 edition of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.

“I am so proud of the work that Student Affairs has done toward embedding equity and social justice into our day-to-day work,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Pina. “By Diverse Issues recognizing our staff dedication toward eliminating barriers and cultivating an inclusive community at OHIO, we hope to continue our dedication to making the experience here exceptional for both our students and our employees. Receiving this news at the start of 2020 makes me excited for the year to come.”
