News and Announcements

Keeping Bobcats informed, March 30, 2020

As Spring arrives across the state, we sincerely miss seeing our students, who are now spread far and wide. No matter how far apart we may be, we are still one big Bobcat family. We want to stay connected to you, and we want you to stay connected to each other.

For those of you who made the transition from face-to-face to remote teaching and learning this week, thank you for your patience and your energy. As we tackle this new challenge together, your active participation in classes is essential to our mutual success. If you need tips or resources, don’t forget to visit ohio.edu/keep-learning.

Here is today’s update:

ACCOUNT CREDITS

Charge Adjustments for Housing, Meal Plans, Parking and more

As previously announced, Ohio University will issue student account credits on a prorated basis for services that were discontinued during the University’s response to COVID-19: Athens on-campus housing, meal plans, parking permits, and Commencement caps and gowns. For more information about how credits will apply and when you can expect to see those credits appear on your account, please visit the Office of the Bursar website.

GRADING

Alternative grading system announced

We want to make sure you didn’t miss the message distributed earlier this afternoon announcing that undergraduate students who recently transitioned from face-to-face to remote teaching and learning may choose to opt in to receive an S (Satisfactory) or NC (No Credit) rather than a traditional letter grade for most courses. You're encouraged to discuss grading options with your academic advisor during Advising Week for the fall semester, which begins today.

CAREER PREPARATION

CLDC offers virtual career and leadership services

More than ever, it is critical to review application materials and prepare for the work force and post-grad life. Mock interviews, career coaching, leadership coaching and more are being offered over the phone or online by the Career and Leadership Development Center.

Competition for student Commencement speaker continues

No matter what timeline or format the program takes, we need a student speaker! Seniors are invited to submit video of themselves reading their prepared remarks to gruenke@ohio.edu.

The deadline for submission has been extended indefinitely and will be revised when a new date for Commencement has been announced.

Continue to carefully monitor your Ohio University e-mail, your college / campus / department websites for new information, and the University’s coronavirus website. If you have additional questions that are not answered on the University’s coronavirus website or its FAQ section, please e-mail them to coronavirus@ohio.edu or direct message them to Ohio University’s Facebook account or Twitter account.
