Student Accessibility Services still prepared to help students
Students with disabilities may have additional questions or considerations during the transition to virtual learning and the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) staffers are prepared and available.
Your individually assigned accessibility coordinator is the best person to discuss unexpected barriers, temporary changes to your accommodations, or additional resources. If you are currently a student registered with SAS, you are encouraged to contact your coordinator by email for the quickest response. You may find your coordinator’s contact information on our website.
Due to the suspension of in-person classes, SAS has cancelled all exams scheduled through the office and has discontinued note taking assistance for the remainder of the semester. Any student who needs assistance with note taking or testing accommodations should contact their coordinator to make arrangements or understand how access will be provided.
Students not registered or with general questions are encouraged to email disabilities@ohio.edu or call 740-593-2620 for assistance during our business hours of Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Student FAQs.
Will I continue to receive accommodations through Student Accessibility Services?
Yes. Due to the recent change to remote or online formats, the accommodations required to provide access for students with disabilities may also have changed. As students would in a face-to-face class, you may contact your instructor if you have questions about how accommodations will apply during the alternative period. If you find you need additional accommodations for the remote or online environment or have concerns regarding the accessibility of remote or online materials, contact Student Accessibility Services at 740-593-2620.
Faculty FAQ’s
How do I assure students with disabilities have accommodations during this time?
Faculty are encouraged to share the following message with all students:
Due to the recent change to a virtual environment, the accommodations required to provide access for students with disabilities may also have changed. I encourage students with disabilities to contact me to discuss how their accommodations will apply during the online period. If you find you need additional accommodations for the online environment, or have concerns regarding the accessibility of online materials, contact Student Accessibility Services at 740-593-2620.
As a person with a disability I may need additional accommodations during this time, what do I do?
If you find your disability related needs as an employee or student have changed, even temporarily, please contact the Office for University Accessibility, which includes Student Accessibility Services, at 740-593-2620 to be directed to the appropriate staff person. We will make every attempt to address and resolve new requests in a timely manner.
How will exams scheduled through Student Accessibility Services be impacted during the suspension of in-person classes?
All exams scheduled through Student Accessibility Services through the end of Spring Semester will be cancelled. If a student requires assistance from SAS to assure they have accommodations such as a reader, scribe, assistive technology, or alternate format, they should contact SAS at 740-593-2620 to make arrangements. Exams that are offered in an untimed and unproctored format will naturally allow for students who received extended time for assessments. If exams are administered in Blackboard and are timed, faculty may adjust the individual time for a student who requires extended time. (Test exceptions)
