University provides public transportation update for Athens County

Available public transportation service options at OHIO and around Athens County have been modified amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Athens Public Transport (APT) and Athens on Demand Transit will be available only for essential travel and essential activities starting Monday, March 30. This will affect OHIO faculty, staff and students that use Athens Public Transport through the Bobcat Pass Program, a partnership between OHIO and the City of Athens.

Essential activities are those as outlined in the statewide Stay at Home order from March 22. This includes health care facilities, essential work locations, grocery stores and pharmacies.

Due to this modification, APT will also implement the following changes:

• APT will eliminate all fares
• APT will suspend all Saturday service
• Line 7 will run once every two hours rather than once per hour
• Lines 3 and 4 will stop service at 7 p.m. respectively
• Only five seated and one wheelchair passenger are to be permitted on the buses at a time in order to keep passengers six feet apart from one another.

Athens on Demand Transit will also eliminate all fares and suspend service on Saturday.

GoBus, another option through the Bobcat Pass Program, is continuing to operate as usual but ticket sales have been reduced per bus from 50 to 25 passengers.
