Fiscal year 2021 furlough FAQ available

This notice serves as a reminder that Ohio University’s fiscal year 2021 furlough began on Wednesday, July 1. The University has developed a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) to help employees understand how the furlough applies to them. The furlough will start with the pay period containing July 1, 2020 and will continue through June 30, 2021.

It applies to all administrative, faculty, and classified non bargaining employees as follows:
EMPLOYEE WAGE FURLOUGH LEAVE DAYS EQUIVALENT WAGE REDUCTION
$0 to $37,999 mandated days only 0
$38,000 to $64,999 10 days 3.8%
$65,000 to $99,999 12 days 4.6%
$100,000 to $149,999 14 days 5.4%
$150,000 to $199,999 16 days 6.1%
$200,000 and above 18 days 6.9%

In an effort to minimize the impact of the wage reduction and furlough leave, the employees’ gross wage reduction will be spread over the course of the entire fiscal year and applied each pay period.   The furlough will include seven mandatory days that will extend the University’s closure periods for Thanksgiving and winter break. The dates are:

  1. November 25, 2020
  2. December 21, 2020
  3. December 22, 2020
  4. December 23, 2020
  5. December 24, 2020
  6. January 4, 2021
  7. January 5, 2021
Employees may take the remainder of their furlough days at their discretion with approval from their supervisor. There will be specified codes in Absence Management and WorkForce for employees to record these days. Furlough days are paid the same as any other workday. Employees’ pay will not be further reduced during the pay periods when furlough days are used. Employees can visit the University Human Resources website to read the full furlough policy, and also visit the budget website to review the FAQ.
