Russ College lab receives grant from Parker-Hannifin

The Parker-Hannifin Foundation Board of Trustees has awarded The Ohio University Foundation an $8,500 grant for the Russ College Parker Motion and Control Lab.

The funding, which Parker-Hannifin has provided to Russ College since the founding of the The Jack Myslenski Parker-Hannifin Lab in 2010, this year was administered through a competitive grant. Dr. Yuqiu You, associate professor of engineering technology and management in the Russ College, wrote the successful grant proposal. The Jack Myslenski Parker-Hannifin Lab was established at Ohio University in honor of retired Executive Vice President Jack Myslenski, who is an alumnus of the Engineering Technology and Management Department in the Russ College.

“This grant can support the maintenance and updating needs of the lab,” You said. “With the development of technologies in the areas of fluid power and motion control, this annual funding ensures that our engineering technology and management students can gain hands-on skills and experiences with updated equipment and technologies.”

Founded in 2010 with funding from Parker-Hannifin, the Russ College Parker Motion and Control Lab provides engineering technology and management students with education and training in both fundamental hydraulics and modern electrohydraulics. 
 

The lab also allows students a real-world platform to conduct undergraduate research mentored by engineering technology and management faculty. Student Cole Stephan, an engineering technology and management major and regular in the lab, won first place for a project with Dr. You and Dr. Mustafa Shraim in the undergraduate research poster competition at the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering national conference in November 2019. Stephan also was awarded a Fluid Power scholarship by the National Fluid Power Association for his work conducted in the Parker Motion and Control Lab.

“Parker-Hannifin continues to be a strong educational partner for the Engineering Technology and Management Department in the Russ College,” said Dr. Todd Myers, department chair and professor of engineering technology and management. “In addition to hydraulic and pneumatic components, they also provide industrial controllers, software, and industrial training to ensure our faculty and students are prepared for current and future industry needs.”

The Parker-Hannifin Foundation also funds $2,000 in annual scholarships for Russ College students who have completed coursework in fluid power.
