Secure healthcare data as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Ohio University Information Technology is providing weekly guidance on how faculty, staff, and students can #BeCyberSmart.

The fourth week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month is dedicated to information about protecting sensitive data, in particular healthcare information. Cyber attacks on healthcare entities can cause downtime and data breaches – and they’re becoming more common each year.

At Ohio University, there are controls in place to protect healthcare data that our HIPAA and HIPAA-like units store, process, and transmit. As an OHIO student or employee, it is important to be aware of when you're interacting with this sort of data and the appropriate practices to follow to ensure it remains secure.

The Information Security Office has many resources available to help individuals familiarize themselves with sensitive data. It is up to each of us to do our part and #BeCyberSmart.
