Ohio University Child Development Center closes toddler classroom until Nov. 16 due to COVID-19 concerns

On Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, Ohio University learned of a positive COVID-19 case with a caregiver in one of the toddler classrooms at the Child Development Center. Parents and families were immediately notified of the situation, and the toddler classroom was closed immediately.

Following the recommendation of the Athens City-County Health Department, the University made the decision to close the Child Development Center’s toddler classroom for a two-week period starting Nov. 2 through Nov. 16.

“The health and safety of our community remains our top priority,” Child Development Center Director Lisa Frasure said. “We are following local public health guidance to ensure we can safely reopen.”

The Child Development Center plans to reopen the toddler classroom on Nov. 16 pending no additional reports of COVID-19 positive cases.

Children, parents, family, staff and students should follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, and contact their primary care physician if they develop symptoms.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate our families’ patience and understanding as we work to maintain a safe experience for all," Frasure said.
