Ann Paulins to retire after 32 years at OHIO

Dr. Ann Paulins, retail and fashion merchandising professor and former senior associate dean for research and graduate studies in The Patton College of Education, will retire in December 2020 after 32 years of service at Ohio University.

Paulins has served in various capacities within the former College of Health and Human Services and The Patton College of Education during her time at Ohio University. She spent her first 22 years on the faculty of the School of Human and Consumer Sciences where she was director from 1999-2010, before transitioning to The Patton College where she served as department chair, associate dean for academic engagement and outreach, and most recently serving as senior associate dean for research and graduate studies. 

Paulins is currently president of the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA), a professional higher education organization for scholars, educators, and students in textile and apparel-related disciplines. She has co-authored several books, including “Ethics in the Fashion Industry” (2020) and “Guide to Fashion Career Planning: Job Search, Resumes and Strategies for Success” (2016). Her research interests within the fashion industry include professional development, consumer motives for apparel choices, and ethical decision-making by consumers and professionals.

In conjunction with her research, Paulins’ course offerings have focused on professional career development and marketing within the retail merchandising and fashion product development fields. Additionally, she teaches the Tier III course “Women and Leadership” and in The Patton College undergraduate honors programs.

Paulins holds both a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising and promotion and master’s degree in textiles and clothing from Ohio University. She earned her Ph.D. in consumer aspects of textiles and clothing from The Ohio State University.
