Classified Senate names Christy King Employee of the Month for April 2020

Classified Senate has named Christy King, accounting support senior specialist for Accounts Payable, the Employee of the Month for April 2020.

This recognition is Classified Senate’s way of awarding those employees who have shown outstanding individual achievement and performance of their jobs, while inspiring and supporting the achievement of others.

Criteria for selection include:

  • Positive attitude and serving as a role model;
  • Productivity and commitment to quality;
  • Initiative and taking on additional responsibilities

King was nominated by OHIO employee Jessica Barton with additional details from Sue Jago. The following is a sample of the comments made about King in the nomination:

“Christy was very patient with me and explained the process of updating supplier accounts step by step. She never once got frustrated and encouraged me every day. Christy goes above and beyond her job duties every day. She does more than her fair share of work plus has continuously trained new temporary employees. Whenever she asked to take on an additional task she is sure to do it to the best of her abilities. She is the hardest and most diligent worker I have ever met. A wonderful novelist as well. Christy is a ray of sunshine on the gloomiest of days. She continues to make me want to be a better person.”

“I haven't worked with Christy in three years. When I did work with her, she took on being the backup for check runs and did it without complaint. She learned quickly and was able to handle her responsibilities at the same time.”

“Christy is the kind of person you want in your life. The kind of person who always keeps you smiling, laughing and seeing the good in life. She’s an inspiration to those who come in contact with her. On top of being the greatest employee, she’s an amazing mother, wife and friend.”

“Christy is a highly valued member of my staff. I feel that, due to her conscientiousness, supplier management is in safe hands. I know that she will follow the departmental guidelines and will consult with me before veering from that. She is very dependable and takes any tasks assigned to her seriously and strives to do a great job always.”

“She has, in addition to her normal duties, been working to get our supplier deactivation process up and running as it is essential to our implementation of the iSupplier module in Oracle. She has worked with our FAST team to test the process, verify and bring forth needed changes. Then she starts all over again. Her organization and attention to detail has been an incredible asset, as has her customer service focus. People like to talk to her when they need assistance. I feel Christy is very deserving of this award and wholeheartedly support your decision.”

King recently answered some get-to-know you questions:

How long have you worked at your job?

I have worked at Ohio University for over 32 years. My first 15 years were with the College of Medicine and the past 17 years I have been with the Finance Department, which includes my current position where I have been since 2011.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

I enjoy working with the Accounts Payable team and appreciate how everyone pulls together to accomplish what is necessary. My colleagues are always willing to help even when they are overwhelmed themselves.

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ______?

I haven’t really thought about it. As a small child, I always thought it would be neat to work as a cashier in a grocery store. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be at Kroger or Walmart. My goal is to one day be able to retire and enjoy life doing whatever I want at my own pace.

What hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing when you’re not at work?

I enjoy walking, camping, and spending time with my family.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I grew up on a dairy farm and continued helping my parents on the dairy farm until they recently retired. We still have animals to care for, and I enjoy being outside and doing that. My husband, kids, and I have also raised pigs through the years for their 4-H projects, as well as raising chickens for our own eggs. I have been involved with farming all my life.

What is your favorite saying or quote?

A favorite bible verse:  For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you! Isaiah 41:13
