Ohio University’s Patton College of Education to host third discussion in new series, Global Issues on Immigration

Ohio University’s Patton College of Education is featuring the third panel discussion in its new Munch and Learn Series: Global Issues on Immigration. “International Students and Immigration: Perspectives from Students, Faculty, and Staff, Part I” will be held on Monday, March 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The virtual Microsoft Teams presentation features a panel composed of students from various countries and Ohio University faculty and staff who work with international students. Panelists will share their experiences as an international student matriculating at a U.S. institution of higher learning. Staff will provide information on services available to support international students as they adjust to their study at Ohio University.

The panel features Kyle Butler, associate professor of instruction/Pathway coordinator/OPIE advisor, Ohio Program of Intensive English; Nanang Gunawan, doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision; Lorraine Koobokile, doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision; Nikol Lopez Llantuy, master’s student in Hospitality and Tourism; Jennifer Nisevich, associate director, PDSO/RO International Student and Faculty Services. The moderator of the discussion is Kelly Davidson, academic advisor; and the convener is Dr. Mona Robinson, professor, Counseling and Higher Education.

• Gain an understanding of the international student’s journey before arriving in the U.S.
• Gain an understanding of the challenges international students encounter from perceptions within the classroom.
• Learn more about the financial burdens of students who seek to study at Ohio University.
• Learn more about international students’ adjustments to life outside of the classroom.

The first session in the series, “Immigrant Experiences: Families, Careers, and Communities,” and the second session, “Honoring the Experiences of Immigrant Populations in Research and Scholarship,” are available on The Patton College’s YouTube channel, as will video recordings of the March 22 and future April 12 series discussions as they are available.

The Global Issues on Immigration Munch and Learn Series is open to Ohio University and the community and will be hosted on Microsoft Teams Live.
