OHIO’s Patton College to host free virtual symposium on Positive Pedagogy for Sport Coaching

The Recreation and Sport Pedagogy Department in Ohio University’s Patton College of Education will host “The Positive Pedagogy for Sport Coaching Virtual Symposium,” via Microsoft Teams on March 20, from 1-5 p.m. EST.

The free event aims to provide researchers and coaching practitioners with insight into the framework of ideas, concepts, and pedagogical features of Positive Pedagogy for Sport Coaching.

The lead convener, Dr. Stephen Harvey, is one of the lead authors on the concept of Positive Pedagogy for Sport Coaching and is an internationally renowned researcher in athlete-centered coaching approaches. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, books, and/or book chapters.

Positive Pedagogy (PPed) was designed to encourage sport coaches to reflect deeply on the nature of learning and the role that questioning, experience, reflection, dialogue, and inquiry play in learning and improving in a sport for any athlete of any age and at any level.

The symposium features a series of short, engaging case study presentations from an international group of sport coaching practitioners who have utilized PPed within their local coaching contexts. In each presentation, the presenter will provide a rationale about why they adopted a PPed approach for the context in which they were working.
