OHIO experts discuss sustainability, climate change and reducing our carbon footprint

In honor of Earth Day on April 22, Ohio University professors discussed ways we as a society can be more sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint, as well as the impacts of climate change on equity, justice and health, in the latest Ask the Experts livestream.

The experts, whose areas of expertise range from urban sustainability, solar energy, environmental health and biomass conversion, talked about community solar initiatives in Ohio, how COVID has impacted the environment, building infrastructure out of sustainable materials and those most vulnerable to climate change.

The discussion featured Geoff Buckley, professor of geography in the College of Arts and Sciences, Gilbert Michaud, assistant professor of practice in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, Michele Morrone, professor of environmental health science in the College of Health Sciences and Professions, and Jason Trembly, Russ professor of mechanical engineering and director of OHIO's Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.

Samantha Pelham, OHIO media relations specialist, moderated the discussion, which included questions from the general public posted to OHIO’s social media channels.
