School of Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Organization to host blood drive Oct. 27

The Ohio University School of Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Organization (BSNO) will host a blood drive on Oct 27, from 1-7 p.m., in the Baker Center Ballroom on Ohio University’s Athens Campus.

“We are partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive in hopes to increase a much needed blood supply in the greater Athens and surrounding communities,” Kaylee O’Neal, a nursing student at Ohio University, said in an email.

According to O’Neal, the Red Cross national blood inventory is the lowest it’s been at this time of year since 2015, with less than a day’s supply of certain blood types in recent weeks.

“One unit of blood can save up to three lives, and there is always a high need for blood throughout our area,” she said. “Our students look forward to contributing to a great cause and saving lives. In previous years we have collected as many as 140 units of blood during our fall blood drive, whereas this year our goal is 200 units.”

To be eligible to donate, donors must:

  • Be in good general health and feeling well.

  • Weigh at least 110 pounds. Additional height and weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school student donors.
