Funding available for experiential learning

Undergraduate students, faculty and staff from all Ohio University campuses are invited to apply for experiential learning funding.

Experiential Learning Awards are supported by the Career and Experiential Learning Fee adopted by Ohio University in 2018 as part of the University’s commitment to make experiential learning attainable for all students.

According to Executive Director for Experiential Learning Lindsey Rudibaugh, quality experiential learning opportunities lead to improved self-awareness, social responsibility, practical skills and critical thinking. Additionally, research shows that students who participate in experiential learning are more likely to finish their degree and understand its value.

Ohio University identifies six types of experiential learning opportunities: internships, research, creative activity, community engagement, study away, and leadership. These experiences may take place in a course, such as a field study, or they may be offered through co-curricular programs, such as an alternative break trip or a student organization.

The spring application cycle for student awards will support experiential learning opportunities that will take place between Feb. 11, 2022, and Feb. 22, 2023. There will be three spring application cycles for these competitive students awards (contingent upon funds remaining) with the first application deadline being Jan. 31. Students may apply for any amount between $100 and $1,000.

Faculty and staff can apply for grant amounts up to $5,000. Spring proposals are due Feb. 28, 2022. Awarded funds will be available to recipients for 365 days from the date of approval.
