About Administrative Senate

The Ohio University Administrative Senate is an elected body representing administrators at Ohio University. Senate's purpose is to "promote and enhance the profession of university administration and, specifically, the profession at Ohio University. We are committed to providing a collective and independent voice to those having administrative responsibilities in the conduct of the educational mission of the University."

Perks of involvement

Administrative Senate provides a myriad of opportunities from staying informed to informing policy; from networking with peers to celebrating their accomplishments. Senators have a myriad of options for involvement based on their interests, professional development goals, and availability.

Opportunities for every schedule

One of the most common questions prospective senators have is “how much time do I have to commit?” The answer is, as much as you want! Most senators attend the monthly meetings which are held 12:00 – 1:30 p.m., every third Thursday of the month, except in the months of July and December, with an option to attend virtually.

Serving on optional committees provides additional opportunities for engagement, too. Looking for some asynchronous work done primarily via email? Consider joining the policy committee. Need to avoid the rush of the beginning of the school year? Consider joining the elections committee. Want a more consistent schedule? Administrative Senate hold seats on a number of standing university committees, too. You can learn more about these and more on the committee site.

Enhance your professional development

Serving as a Senator provides direct opportunities for professional development, too. Beyond networking, Senate builds institutional knowledge, provides opportunities for communication development, and creates opportunities for learning and collaboration. Committee involvement provides additional opportunities for process development and improvement, outreach, leadership, and more, all in line with the University Professional Development Policy.
