Parents Weekend events to include day hikes, campfires and stargazing

Ohio University Well-Being and Recreation will kick off its Parents Weekend events starting with a campfire at the Ridges on Friday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m.

All Bobcats and their parents are invited to join Outdoor Pursuits at the Ridges for an evening of stargazing and campfire fun. The first campfire will take place from 8-11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, and a second campfire will occur the following evening, Saturday, Sept. 24 from 8-11 p.m.

Each night will begin with a short hike around the Ridges, and then participants can spend the evening roasting marshmallows, gazing through telescopes, spotting constellations and listening to tales of the night sky and Ridges lore. Participants should wear appropriate outdoor clothing to walk in and should bring a water bottle.

Also on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., students have the opportunity to take their parents on a day hike through the Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve. Those attending will meet at Ping Center at 9:45 a.m. to depart as a group. Participants should bring a water bottle and wear appropriate hiking clothes for the weather.

Registration for stargazing and campfire events is $10, and the fee includes campfire snacks. Registration for the Conkle’s Hollow day hike is $20 and includes transportation, lunch and guides. All participants must register individually for each event. To register, visit RecShop.ohio.edu
