Josh Gonzalez named as OHIO’s Chief Privacy Officer

Chief Audit Executive Marion Candrea has announced that Josh Gonzalez has been named as Ohio University’s Chief Privacy Officer.

Gonzalez, who began the new role on April 3, will lead a comprehensive University Privacy Program to ensure the protection of information that is entrusted to Ohio University.

“With data privacy and security continuing to be a top risk in higher education, bringing on a Chief Privacy Officer demonstrates the University’s commitment to stakeholder privacy rights and interests,” Candrea said. “I look forward to seeing Josh grow this program through his collaborative approach to privacy and compliance.”

As the Chief Privacy Officer, Gonzalez will work in close collaboration with cross-functional leaders across the University to develop and implement privacy-related policies and procedures.

A member of the Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance, Gonzalez will also work to increase awareness and understanding of issues related to privacy. This will be essential for the University community as state, national and international privacy laws continue to expand.

Gonzalez, who is Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), said he is proud to be joining Ohio University in this new role.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance’s growth in an ever-changing privacy and compliance landscape,” Gonzalez said.
