Mackenzie Shultz chosen as the OHIO Eastern Student Resource Center coordinator
Mackenzie Shultz was recently named Ohio Campus Compact, AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2023-2024 academic year at Ohio University Eastern.
The AmeriCorps volunteer position at OHIO Eastern was made possible through ServeOhio, Ohio’s commission on service and volunteerism. For the fifth academic year, ServeOhio selected Ohio Campus Compact (OCC) to sponsor AmeriCorps members at higher education institutions to develop a Student Resource Center (SRC) program.
Shultz, an OHIO Eastern undergraduate student, will be serving this academic year as the Campus Compact, AmeriCorps Student Resource Coordinator. She is on track to earn a Bachelor’s in Social Work in spring 2025 and plans to start her career in the Ohio Valley as a licensed social worker.
“Shultz is a great candidate for this position as she is organized, kind, caring and knowledgeable about local resources,” said Jennifer Kellner-Muscar, OHIO Eastern director of Student Services. “As a social work major, Shultz is being trained in appropriate interventions for individuals in our community.”
In her new role, Shultz will support the development and growth of the Student Resource Center at OHIO Eastern, an Ohio Campus Compact initiative, which is designed to support campuses in identifying and providing much-needed resources to students who experience barriers to their academic success.
“This year, I plan to establish and increase the overall visibility of the Student Resource Center,” said Shultz. “The SRC will provide resources that our students need, and I look forward to helping our student community reach its fullest potential.”
The OHIO Eastern SRC is a physical space on campus where students can seek support for challenges they are facing. Students are encouraged to visit Shultz in the SRC Coordinator’s office located on the third floor of Shannon Hall, room 344. Additional SRC services available for students on the third floor include access to Cat’s Career Clothing Closet and the Cat’s Cupboard food pantry.
“The OHIO Eastern SRC can benefit students by assisting them with anything from finding housing to accessing food, finding transportation and medical care, as well as finding resources for substance abuse, counseling, and tutoring, said Kellner-Muscar. “The SRC serves as a central hub to connect students to University, campus, federal and community resources.”
The OHIO Eastern Student Resource Center will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. For more information about the Student Resource Center visit ohio.edu/eastern/student-resource-center or contact Shultz at oue-resourcecenter@ohio.edu
