New dining option, Earl’s Coop, to open at Shively Grab-N-Go

Ohio University Culinary Services announces the opening of one of its newest venues, Earl’s Coop, located at Shively Grab-N-Go.

Earl’s Coop will open at the start of the fall semester on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, and is conveniently located at the corner of Shively Hall on East Green. Earl’s Coop will serve fresh, classic chicken strips with exclusive signature sauces, alongside a variety of specialty macaroni and cheese, waffle fries and cookies, all made fresh daily on campus.

The new Grab-N-Go location is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.

Earl’s Coop is named after Earl Shively, whom the hall was named after in 1957. A native of Vinton County, OH, he attended school in Vinton County and was a 1921 graduate of Ohio University and received his law degree from Ohio State University. He served as a captain in World War I and was an interpreter at the Versailles Peace Conference. He taught French at Ohio State University and practiced law in Columbus. Shively was on the Board of Trustees at Ohio University, and on the general counsel for the Ohio Railroad Association.

A grand opening will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at noon. The event will include a ribbon cutting, giveaways and samples from the menu.

Culinary Services at Ohio University serves approximately 2.4 million meals per calendar year and is the largest student employers on campus. Culinary Services is a nationally recognized student leader and internship program which provides students with opportunities for class credit and management experience. There are over 255 student leaders in catering, dining courts, cafes, and campus markets.
