Keeping Bobcats Informed, Nov. 8, 2023

Parents and Families,

It was wonderful to see so many visitors on campus this past weekend for Dads Weekend! I hope you got to enjoy your student's favorite parts of campus and Athens, and I'm already looking forward to spring semester Family Weekends. If you attended Dads Weekend, we would love to get your feedback to make future Family Weekends even better.

As your student is finishing midterms and this beautiful fall weather begins to wind down, I want to remind you of ways they can take care of their physical and mental health. Well-Being and Recreation has a variety of group fitness classes and other options for staying active, and Counseling and Psychological Services has plenty of self-guided resources that are available now and during breaks and University closures.

Your student's well-being is a priority, and our resources are here for them. As always, reach out if your student can't find the support they're seeking.

Dean of Students

Group Fitness

Group Fitness - an image of fitness equipment

Stay active as the cold weather approaches. Students can attend a free group fitness class like yoga or boxing, or join an F45 Training. F45 combines elements of High-Intensity Interval Training, Circuit Training, and Functional Training. Whatever your student's work out preference is, Well-Being and Recreation is here to support their health.

Bags of apples are handed out at a food pantry

Over 500 students and staff are signed up as Cats' Cupboard food pantry users this year. As holidays approach we want to make sure the shelves are stocked for our OHIO community. Donate food or hygiene products if you are able to, or purchase something from the Cats' Cupboard wishlist. Donations can be dropped off on the second floor of Baker University Center.

Calling all graduate students

The Division of Student Affairs, along with University partners, offers a wide range of graduate assistantships, which are designed to supplement classes with practical work experience. If your student is at the graduate level, tell them to check out open positions for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. Any graduate student pursuing an on-campus graduate degree can apply to these positions.

Open positions

Well-being that fits their schedule

As students enter the second half of the semester, schedules can sometimes get tight. Counseling and Psychological Services offers many resources students can use on their own time to take care of their mental health! Learn more about online self-paced workshops, Togetherall, WellTrack Boost, and mindfulness. All of these resources are available during University breaks.
