OHIO students, faculty invited to apply for Central Regional Humanities Center grants

Ohio University students and faculty are invited to apply for grants for the 2024-25 academic year through the Central Region Humanities Center.

The grant programs are designed to support student internships, experiential learning opportunities, the acquisition of research materials and research-related travel.

Grant opportunities for OHIO students

Undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking internships or experiential learning opportunities related to the humanities are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $1,000 from the Central Region Humanities Center.

Student projects must relate in some fashion to the state of Ohio or one of the larger geographic regions that is part of, such as the Ohio River Valley, the Great Lakes Region, the Old Northwest Territory or the Midwest. 

To apply for grants, students must submit the following materials: 

• A 600-700-word narrative that describes the project and the nature of student engagement. The narrative should also include a time line for student involvement, the significance of the project to the humanities, the role the grant would play in launching, advancing, or completing the project; and the name and contact information of the person who would be supervising the student's work. 
• A proposed budget for use of grant funds in supporting student involvement in the project.

The narrative and budget should be submitted as a single document via email attachment to History Professor Katherine Jellison, who is the director of the Center, at jellison@ohio.edu by Sept. 15, 2024. 

The Central Region Humanities Center Executive Committee will begin evaluating applications immediately following that deadline with the goal of informing recipients no later than Sept. 30, 2024.

Grant opportunities for OHIO faculty, graduate students

Ohio University faculty and graduate students are invited to apply for grants of up to $750 from the Central Regional Humanities Center. The grant funding is intended to support the acquisition of research materials or (non-conference) research-related travel in academic year 2024-25.

Research projects must relate in some fashion to the state of Ohio or one of the larger geographic regions that it is part of, including the Ohio River Valley, the Great Lakes Region, the Old Northwest Territory and the Midwest. Any Ohio University faculty member or graduate student in a humanities or humanities-related discipline is eligible to apply.

To apply for grants, faculty and graduate students must submit the following materials.

• A 500-600-word abstract that explains the research project, its significance to the humanities, and the role the grant would play in launching, advancing, or completing the project in the 2024-25 academic year. 
• A proposed budget for use of the grant funds in the project. Graduate student applicants should also include a statement by their advisor endorsing their application.

All components of the application should be submitted as a single document via email attachment to jellison@ohio.edu by Sept. 15, 2024.
