All Ohio University faculty and administrative staff now eligible for donated leave

Ohio University’s Executive Staff Policy Committee (ESPC) has approved an interim update to Policy 40.035: Vacation Leave Donation. The update expands access to donated leave to all faculty and administrative staff, including those with less than one year of service.

“It is important to me that we demonstrate to our employees that we value them from day one,” said President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, who endorsed the policy update. “We have now extended parental leave eligibility to start on day one, and we are extending access to our leave pool as well.”

The Vacation Leave Donation policy provides the opportunity for Administrative Staff and Faculty to donate vacation leave to a leave pool. Donated vacation leave is then converted to sick leave and may be provided as additional leave to individuals in need of sick time for personal use or to care for a family member.

The interim policy updates eligibility for the leave pool to include administrative staff and faculty with less than one year of service.  Individuals with less than one year of service may now receive up to 80 hours (10 days) of sick leave from the pool.

The interim policy does not change the amount of time individuals with greater than one year of service may receive.  Individuals with greater than one year of service will remain eligible for up to 160 hours (20 days) of sick leave from the pool.

As a reminder, donors can donate to the Leave Pool by completing the Request to Donate Vacation Leave [PDF]. Individuals in need of time, complete the Request to Receive Donated Leave [PDF] and submit the form to Human Resources.

If you have any questions regarding the interim policy or paid time off please contact University Human Resources at 740.593.1636 or uhr@ohio.edu.
