Ohio University extends 2024 Winter Break Closure

The 2024 Ohio University Winter Break Closure will be extended to include Monday, Dec. 23, and Tuesday, Dec. 24. Ohio University closes annually from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1 to recognize and reward the contributions of all employees on all campuses.

“As we close out the 2024 calendar year, we wanted to further acknowledge the hard work of our faculty and staff who tackled major initiatives this past year,” said Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. “We finalized our Dynamic Strategy and began implementation; we navigated multiple setbacks with the federal financial aid process; we launched new academic programs; and much more. These two extra days of respite are one small way to applaud the work and prepare for another busy year to come.”

Recognizing select University business must continue through the holiday season, some employees are asked to work during the Winter Break closure on any given year. Similarly, certain essential functions will continue over the extended closure, and employees asked to work Dec. 23 or 24 should arrange alternative time off with their supervisors. Bargaining Unit employees should refer to their Collective Bargaining Agreements for specific details and conditions regarding Winter Break Closure. Additional details are available on the Human Resources website.

The extended closure will only impact the 2024 winter closure and does not represent a modification of University Policy 41.001: Vacation and Winter Closure Time.
