On Oct. 29, 2024, the Ohio University Alumni Association Malaysia Network paid a courtesy visit to Nancy Shukri, MBA ’97, the country’s Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development. The visit, led by Malaysia Network President Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor, MSPE ’97, and advisor Jayum Anak Jawan (former Tun Abdul Razak Chair at OHIO), included committee members Kamalul Arifin Othman, MBA ’96, and Nor Azuwa Mohd Isa, BBA ’99, MA ’03.
It was a fruitful meeting and great news for the Malaysia Network, during which Minister Shukri accepted an invitation to be the organization’s patron.
As many as 2,400 OHIO alumni live and work in Malaysia, representing the University’s greatest concentration of alumni outside the U.S. Many OHIO alumni have become leaders in key sectors of Malaysian society, including business, academia, government and the media.
Last year, the Malaysia Network and the Ohio University Alumni Association organized “Bobcats in Kuala Lumpur” at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur in May and a live telecast of the Homecoming 2024 at the UiTM Shah Alam Annex Hall in September (seen in photo above). Both events were well-attended by alumni and friends and received full support from Ohio University.
The Malaysia Network is planning to organize several events in 2025 and is looking forward to a potential collaboration between Ohio University and the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. The group hopes this collaboration will further enhance the relationship between Ohio University and Malaysia.
