
Students win excellence awards for work produced at WOUB

Five Ohio University Scripps College of Communication students working at WOUB Public Media received Awards of Excellence in the national Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts competition.
“We are so thrilled that the students received this recognition for work they are doing at WOUB. They are producing important content in a professional newsroom and serving people in 55 counties across three states with their news coverage,” said WOUB Editor-in-Chief Atish Baidya.
Junior Will DeBlock, a media arts and students major from Delaware, OH; Junior Parker Kopronica, a news and information major from Lorain, OH; Senior Hailey Hollinger, a news and information major from Canton, OH; and Senior Tim Hanna, a news and information major from Troy, OH were honored for their work on the Gridiron Glory Season 25 promo in the Promotional Video/Tease/PSA category of the student sports competition. Junior Donovan Varney, a news and information major from Gahanna, Ohio, was honored for his story on hemp product regulations in the Television Hard News category in the student news competition.
Winners were selected from a pool of 2,285 entries, representing over 300 colleges and
universities in the following competitions: audio, documentary, film & video, interactive multimedia, news, scriptwriting, sports and two-year colleges.
The BEA Festival of Media Arts is an internationally refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and a national showcase for student work. The festival provides a venue for exhibition of winning submissions, including recognition of project authors, through showcase and awards sessions held during BEA’s annual convention in Las Vegas. The festival seeks to enhance and extend creative activities, teaching, and professional standards in broadcasting and other forms of electronically mediated communication.
