Lafreniere earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Florida. His professional background spans teaching, academic administration and consulting in both academic and industry settings. He is particularly known for his research in STEM education, including the “Collaboratory” approach to integrative STEM learning and his innovative work in online assessment technologies.

“We are excited to welcome Mike Lafreniere as interim dean,” said Dr. Lewatis McNeal, vice provost for regional higher education. “He brings a wealth of experience, a strong commitment to academic excellence, and a deep understanding of the OHIO Chillicothe campus. His longstanding dedication to students, faculty and regional collaboration positions him well to lead the campus during this important period. His leadership will be instrumental in advancing Regional Higher Education's shared goals for academic quality, regional engagement and student-centered learning.”

As interim dean, Lafreniere will work closely with faculty, staff and students to support the University's mission and maintain a focus on academic excellence, student engagement and community enrichment. His leadership will be crucial in ensuring OHIO Chillicothe’s continued growth and success as it transitions to this new chapter.

Milliken, who has served as dean since January 2021 and will officially step down from the position on June 30, is excited Lafreniere will be serving as the interim dean.

“I have worked alongside Mike Lafreniere for several years, and I know him to be a dedicated educator who is deeply devoted to OHIO Chillicothe’s success,” said Milliken. “His experience, commitment, institutional knowledge, and integrity all recommend him to the position. I have the utmost confidence that he will do an excellent job in the role.”
