Ohio University partners with Southern State Community College to create seamless transfer pathways for multiple programs

To help enhance educational opportunities for students in the state of Ohio, Ohio University has entered into a partnership with Southern State Community College (SSCC) to establish a streamlined transfer pathway for SSCC students. The agreement will allow students who complete their associate degrees at SSCC to easily transfer to Ohio University and pursue bachelor’s degrees in a variety of fields.
SSCC students who earn their associate degree through specific programs will now be able to continue their academic journey at Ohio University, completing their bachelor's degrees in areas such as Human Services in the Patton College of Education and Journalism in the Scripps College of Communication. This partnership provides a clear, seamless transition, offering a pathway to further education and career development.
"We are thrilled to partner with Southern State Community College to create transparent, seamless pathways for students aspiring to complete their bachelor's degrees." said Rob Callahan, assistant vice president and executive director of the Online, Transfer, and Credit Services Center at Ohio University. "This collaboration strengthens both institutions commitment to supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals."
In addition to the aforementioned pathways, the institutions have also signed an agreement for an RN to BSN pathway which will provide students with a seamless transition to obtaining a Bachelor’s degree online in one of the most in-demand fields. OHIO’s RN to BSN program has been recognized as the top RN to BSN program among public universities in Ohio by nursing.org and is ranked second overall by AllNurses. This distinction reflects the program's exceptional graduation rates, affordability and post-graduation employment rate. Additionally, the School of Nursing is ranked as the best nursing school in Ohio by Niche, underscoring its commitment to excellence in nursing education.
“Southern State is delighted to work with Ohio University to offer seamless pathways for students to earn an OHIO bachelor’s degree,” said Erika Goodwin, vice president of academic and student affairs at Southern State Community College. “Southern State is proud to offer affordable, accessible and high quality in-demand associate degrees and certificates. We greatly value our partnership with Ohio University and the wonderful opportunity it will provide to students.”
The transfer pathways have been carefully developed to ensure a seamless process for students, outlining each step needed to successfully transition from SSCC to Ohio University. Students can transfer both in person and through OHIO Online. With SSCC having campuses located in Hillsboro and Mount Orab, it is expected to see students take advantage of OHIO’s online options, allowing for more accessibility for those located within these locations.
