David Morkeh brings global perspective, student focus to OHIO Lancaster

With a proven commitment to student development and success, David Morkeh is bringing his talents and passion to Ohio University Lancaster as the new Success Advisor for Fall 2025.
Backed by years of hands-on experience in advising, teaching and student engagement, both in the United States and abroad, Morkeh is excited to serve and support the diverse student population at OHIO Lancaster.
Morkeh obtained his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University in May 2025, specializing in college student personnel. His academic journey has been shaped by coursework in student development theory, appreciative education, educational assessment, and legal and diversity issues in higher education.
“I believe in building meaningful, one-on-one relationships with students,” Morkeh said. “Every student deserves an advocate who will listen, guide and connect them with the resources they need to thrive, not just academically, but as whole people.”
Before joining OHIO Lancaster, Morkeh served as a graduate assistant for Academic Advising at Ohio University’s Patton College of Education, where he advised more than 90 students, co-advised with faculty, maintained individualized graduation plans, and developed communication strategies to ensure students stayed informed and supported. He also played a key role in events like the Majors Fair and led data assessments that helped shape future advising practices.
Morkeh’s research interests range from artificial intelligence in academic advising to the adoption of student success technologies and reflect a forward-thinking approach to student support. His most recent work explored the challenges advisors face when integrating new technology platforms, such as transitioning from the Starfish advising system to Slate.
Originally from Ghana, Morkeh earned his Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies and Psychology from the University of Ghana in 2019. His professional background includes teaching and advising at Springboard College in Accra, where he provided academic counseling, coached students through scholarship applications, facilitated ICT workshops and supported new student orientation efforts.
As a Success Advisor, Morkeh will play a central role in helping students explore career options, identify internship opportunities and prepare for life after graduation. He will also proactively identify students who may need additional support and connect them with appropriate services across the University.
“David brings an incredible combination of global perspective, academic expertise, and genuine care for students,” said Sarah Bogdewiecz, director of Student Services. “His ability to connect with students on a personal level and his forward-thinking approach to advising will be a tremendous asset to our campus. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the OHIO Lancaster community.”
When asked about what motivates his work, Morkeh shared, “Helping students discover their purpose and equipping them with the tools to reach their potential is my greatest motivation. No matter where they start or what obstacles they face, I want them to know they belong here and can succeed.”
