Important information about parking, traffic during move-in days

With the fall semester about to begin, all members of the Ohio University community should be aware of important details regarding parking and traffic during move-in activities from August 21-23, 2025. These activities will have a significant impact on parking availability, particularly in areas close to residential facilities.

On-campus parking during move-in

• Move-in dates: The primary move-in dates are Thursday, Aug. 21 through Saturday, Aug. 23.
• Parking impacts: During this period, several parking lots near student housing will experience high usage, leading to potential congestion and limited availability. To ease this process for incoming students and their families, OHIO faculty and staff are encouraged to consider using alternative parking locations that are expected to be less busy.
• Recommended parking options: Transportation and Parking Services has identified specific parking areas that are likely to have lower utilization during move-in. Parking in these areas will not only make your parking experience smoother but also support OHIO’s efforts to provide a better move-in experience for students and families. • Express transit service: For OHIO faculty and staff who choose to park at The Ridges to avoid main campus parking and traffic congestion, a complimentary express transit service will be available on Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22. This service will run continuous loops between Kennedy Museum at The Ridges and Baker University Center during the following hours:
  • Morning: 7-9:30 a.m.
  • Midday: 11 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.
  • Afternoon: 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Evening: 5:30-11 p.m.
• Accessible transit: If you or your colleagues have limited or permanent mobility needs, accessible transit will be available on Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please call 740-593-1917 to arrange this service.
• Peak parking times: Transportation and Parking Services anticipates the highest demand for parking and potential congestion will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Members of the OHIO community should plan for extra time for their arrival and navigating campus during these hours.

Construction and roadway impacts

Please be aware that ongoing construction projects and temporary roadway changes may affect access to certain areas of campus during move-in. All members of the OHIO community are encouraged to review the latest updates and plan accordingly.

• East Green parking and construction impacts:  You can read more at this Transportation and Parking Services website.
• Stimson Avenue temporary traffic pattern change: Due to ongoing construction on the Stimson Avenue bridge, the section of Stimson Avenue between County Road 25 and 1804 Way will be west-bound traffic only August 19-25, 2025. Traffic may enter campus however must use East State Street or other alternate routes to exit campus.
