LINKS Peer Mentors: Building belonging, one LINKEE at a time

This fall, Ohio University’s LINKS Peer Mentor Program is buzzing with energy as 25 dedicated mentors welcome and guide 113 first-year Bobcats, known proudly as LINKEES, into the OHIO community.

The mentors, representing 22 different majors across six academic colleges, serve as connectors, problem-solvers, and role models who work tirelessly to help their LINKEES navigate both the academic and social elements of college life.

As the semester unfolds, the LINKS Peer Mentor Program continues to show that peer-to-peer support is not just helpful, it is transformative. For many first-year students, being a LINKEE is the first step toward truly becoming a Bobcat.

From the very first day, during the LINKS Welcome Program on Aug. 22, LINKS Peer Mentors have been the friendly faces leading tours, answering questions and creating safe spaces where new students can feel at home. Through weekly check-ins, group social activities and one-on-one conversations, mentors keep LINKEES engaged, supported and on track.

Beyond academics, the mentors inspire students to explore Athens, connect with campus resources and embrace the full Bobcat experience.

“It’s all about making students feel seen and supported,” said one mentor. “College can be overwhelming, LINKS gives you a family right from the start.”
