A few suggested Ohio University Press books to help you get started
Adult Fiction
- "The Canard County Trilogy," by Robert Gipe. The first book in this much-lauded trilogy, "Trampoline: An Illustrated Novel," is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Here is just one of many tributes for it: “I fear this book. I’m in love with this book. I’m laughing out loud at this book. I am knocked to my knees in grief by this book. One of the most powerful works of contemporary fiction I’ve read in years. I’ll never forget Dawn Jewell. I’ll never escape Canard County.”—Ann Pancake
- "Kinfolks: The Wilgus Stories," by Gurney Norman (fiction). One of the centerpieces of modern Appalachian Literature, Kinfolks won the esteemed Weatherford Book Award for fiction when it was first published. These very short stories capture the voice and essence of rural family life in the region.
Full-Color Books
- "Civic Architecture Across America: Extraordinary Views." This gift book of panoramic photography has the additional bonus of being by an OHIO alumnus, Thomas Schiff. And the topic of civic architecture, stunningly photographed, is a great one for America’s 250th celebration.
