Building digital accessibility skills together
Digital content is easier to use when its structure is clear and intentional.
In order to help all members of the Ohio University community with their digital content structure, the OHIO Digital Accessibility Network (OHIO-DAN) is focusing this year on building campus-wide fluency in the Seven Core Skills of Digital Accessibility.
The seven skills are: headings, lists, links, tables, color and contrast, images and alt text, and accessible video and audio.
OHIO-DAN will now meet quarterly on the last Thursday of January, April, July and October.
The group’s first session, which will be held on Thursday, Jan. 29, will begin with headings and lists, two foundational skills used across courses, communications, reports and websites. These tools help convey meaning, strengthen readability and support accessibility for people using assistive technology.
Those attending the meeting will learn about:
- Structuring information to communicate purpose
- Communicating clarity and consistency through headings and lists
- Ensuring readable structure for all audiences, including screen reader users
The meeting, which will be led by Jill Bateman, CPAAC, will be held from 4-5 p.m. on Jan. 29 on the OHIO-DAN Teams Channel.
Slides and a recording of the meeting will be available on the OHIO-DAN SharePoint site.
