Astronaut and business leader Larry Connor to deliver Ohio University Commencement Address, receive Honorary Doctorate

Ohio University will welcome distinguished alumnus, entrepreneur and private astronaut Larry Connor back to campus as the keynote speaker for its May 2026 commencement ceremonies.

Connor will also be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during Friday’s Graduate Ceremony in recognition of his leadership in business, nonprofit work and exploration.

A nationally recognized real estate entrepreneur, Connor is the founder and managing partner of The Connor Group, a real estate investment firm with billions in assets under management and a reputation for disciplined growth and a high-performance culture. His professional achievements are matched by a deep commitment to nonprofit work that provides educational opportunities and support for underserved youth, along with a passion for exploration from the ocean to space.

Connor piloted the Ax-1 mission to the International Space Station, supporting scientific research with leading institutions. He also took part in research dives to the Mariana Trench and is one of only three people in history to have traveled to both space and the deepest part of the ocean.

“Larry Connor’s career reflects extraordinary vision, courage, and commitment,” said Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. “As a business leader and explorer, he has pushed beyond traditional boundaries while demonstrating the power of perseverance and purpose. Through his work in business and in the community, he continues to make a meaningful impact. We are proud to recognize his achievements with an honorary degree and honored to welcome him back to inspire our graduates.”

Connor will receive the honorary degree at the Graduate Ceremony on Friday and will deliver the keynote address at Saturday’s Undergraduate ceremonies, celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2026.

“My time in Athens was transformative. I learned much from my college experience, both in the classroom and outside,” said Connor. “My message to students will be to value and cherish the extraordinary experience Ohio University provided you.”

Ohio University’s Spring 2026 Commencement ceremonies are scheduled for May 1–2, 2026, at the Convocation Center in Athens, featuring a Graduate ceremony on Friday (9:30 a.m.) and two Undergraduate ceremonies on Saturday (9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.).
